Best way to use and APC40 mode once disabled..

After disabling an APC40 component, such as the Mixer or Channel Strips and using the observer to get values such as 1's and zeros,
whats the best way to turn those into something like a CC number? Or the best way to just use the data?

I was hoping to make a patch that let me sort of re-map this mode switching. But I am struggling with "ctlin" or "ctlout." Of course I could take these 1's and 0's data and send them down a path to something very specific such as "live_track 0 devices 0 parameters 1" but then it is specifically controlling that. I was hoping for something less limiting. Like a way to Re-map CC's
Is that possible? Or is it better to stick with something specific?

Can you give me the big picture of what you are trying to accomplish. I would be glad to tell you the best way of doing it if i know that.

I realized I was way over thinking what I wanted to do with the sliders and controls. All I wanted to do was remap the default behavior. I thought that I would have to disable components (Track Control, Device Control & Mixer) and then build a device that observes the actual controls and link them to something else.

After I RTFM (:P), I realized all I had to do was set the APC40 to Remote mode in the MIDI prefs and assign a control via MIDI mapping (duh). This would strip the default assignments. In fact, you can get 4 banks of 8 MIDI assignments by using the mode buttons in the Track Control and 8 banks of 8 MIDI assignments by using the Select + Device Control buttons to select the bank you want to use for the Device Control buttons. You can also hard map the track volume sliders to specific track or other controls completely.

So if you can use default behavior first, you will save yourself a headache. Otherwise, please do let us know what you are trying to acheive.

I've made a lot of headway with the APC40 MODES device I have been working on.

I tried a lot of different stuff and I am currently settling on the idea I have working. Maybe after I am done and it's posted, I will work on a better way to maybe make it more of an editor. Kind of like an M4L style "Novation Automap" for the APC40.

There will be 4 Modes.

1- Default
2- Mixer Section Mode 1
3- Mixer Section Mode 2
4- Matrix Mode Toggle on Off

The "Modes" will only control Rack Macros or Devices. However you will be able to reconfigure which devices and which parameters you want to control. Hopefully it will be somewhat flexible and modular, but it still has it's limitations.

I should be finished tonight, and tomorrow I will post it plus a video demonstration.

Thanks Mike C for pioneering the way on this stuff.

PLEASE HELP! I couldn't post the patch on forums because there was too much text. So I am posting here http://www.maxforlive.com/library/device.php?id=205 prematurely to get some help on fixing it.

MY PROBLEM is I do not want to disable the Button Matrix when entering these 2 MODES.
I want the Button Matrix to be left at it default setting. But I can figure out how to disable all the MIXER controls plus the Track Select Buttons without disabling the Button Matrix.

How it works so far.
There is a small toggle for "enable MODES" this will enable modes.
Underneath that there is a toggle that says "MODE-1" when off "MODE-2" when on. You can map any button from any controller to it.

OR
Underneath the MODE-1/MODE2 toggle, there are a set of 3 toggles. The first one will enable MODE-1, the second will enable MODE-2, the 3rd does nothing yet. You can map any buttons (preferably LED buttons) from any controller to these 2 instead of using the "MODE-1/MODE-2" toggle. This gives you a flashing LED button indicating which mode you are in.

The way I do it is MAP the Master Select button to the "enable MODES" little toggle.
Map Track 8 Mute button to the 1st toggle underneath the Yellow or Pink "MODE-1/MODE-2"
Map Track 8 Solo button to the 2nd toggle underneath that.

For each TAB 1-8 you will see a graphic representation of the Track Select, Mute, Solo, Arm buttons.
One each side of these there are small "live tab" buttons. Yellow side is Mode 1, Pink side is for Mode 2.
The 2 tiny T and M will set that button to Toggle or Momentary in the corresponding mode.
The 5 tiny 1-5 buttons select which device rack you want to effect in that track
The 8 tiny 1-8 buttons select which parameter on that device you want to effect.

Hope that makes since. Ideally in the Live set there are Device racks in the first 8 tracks.

This sounds amazing - I've been trying to do this using bomes midi translator.

I use traktor synced / routed through Ableton.

I love the idea of creating an automap like patch which allows full customization of leds.

I would like to setup Traktor Mode and congfigure the LED's for 4 decks

How are you getting on?

getton on...eh?

I put a lot of work into something I don't really like. I updated the patch. It kinda works. I just get torn between a simple and efficient set, and one that has tons of possibilities that I can get lost in.

I will post a video on it tomorrow, but after that I am going to just make some tunes for a while.

Video POSTED.

http://vimeo.com/9224660

well actually it's 2:16 am and it says it will be converted in 30minutes.

Also I posted an update of the patch with some minor fixes. http://www.maxforlive.com/library/device.php?id=205

Any suggestions on how to improve the patch would be great. Not necessarily user specific functions, but ways to make it work more efficiently.

It took longer than I thought. I just couldn't get the video file size down far enough. Then I got a demo version of SonyVegas and WHAM, there it is.

nice stuff, video is great! i finally get it what this thing does :)

btw i really like your setup and would love to steal some ideas :)
any chance we get our hands on that? or the devices at least? :)
i would be deeply grateful!!!
