max4live.info tutorial: In Control: (Launchpad Edition) - Sending Values

This tutorial gets into how to send values to a control surface through the Live API. You will learn how to send messages to the Launchpad and any other Ableton specific device (Currently the APC40 and the Launchpad).

The patch from the tutorial is available in the tutorial section of the forums.

Thanks for the videos! I have

Thanks for the videos! I have m4l, but where are the pdf's that describe the lom, etc? You mentioned 2 documents about m4l? I can only find brief mentions in the live 8.1 manual?

LOM

The Lom documents are in the Max editor under help. Go To Max For Live help, or search for LOM.

APC40 Color Values

I haven't been able to find documentation on the APC40 button color values but from what I can tell they are as follows:
0 - Off
1 - Green
2 - Flashing Green
3 - Red
4 - Flashing Red
5 - Amber
6 - Flashing Amber
If you dig into the CS Step Sequencer you can see this in the note-manipulation>update-hardware patch. I am not sure if this works for the clip stop, track selection and scene launch buttons but it does work for the button grid. Please post something if these do work with the clip stop, track selection and scene launch buttons.
Cheers!

:-(

okay, it doesn't help me.

indeed, I need to observe a "floating" grid of 8x6.
this grid moves up and down on my liveset as described here: http://forum.ableton.com/viewtopic.php?p=1034356#p1034356

the collection concept isn't probably the best I have to use

Thanks for tutorials

Very helpful. I'm awaiting my APC40 & loook forward to deploying the patch. The M4L API sure saves a fair amount of work with paths and IDs.

APC40

I had a website issue yesterday which halted my plans of researching my APC40 wtih the Live API. I plan on looking at the APC40 tonight.

Putting it all together...

Thanks for the tutorials--very helpful.

I'm at total max noob and attempting my first-ever patch--I'd like to emulate Stretta's "fourths" patch, which creates a playable monome grid mapped in fourths, for the Launchpad.

I think I just need a little direction on how to combine the three tutorial patches, and how to take the info from the 3rd tutorial to mapping midi and led assignments for the entire button matrix (the video showed mapping two specific buttons using individual commands--is there an easy way to do this for the entire launchpad grid??)

Thanks for any clues!

Dave
