User Modes

Hi,
I'd like to customize my APC 40 with Live, by using some user modes ( specific mapping, etc... )
for example like that : http://fr.440tv.com/video.php/v/2778/Akai-APC40-Personnalisation
I saw the tuto : "max4live.info tutorial: In Control - Switching Modes". but it's applied to the Novation LaunchPad and not to the APC40.
the difference between the two machines : the LaunchPad has 2 User Mode (2 buttons), so it's easy to access to user bank, and customize it. My question  how to access to User Modes with the APC. In other way, 'm looking  for some "blank" bank on wich Icn plug cutom behaviours
Especiall, I'd like to control a dumrack with the pad of the APC...
Have you some advices?....

I actually had my APC40 for quite a while... However, for some reason, it is the only surface I have not really dug into yet, I don't think it has a special user mode. I haven't used it in a while, but I don't remember seeing it. You will probably need to use a shift-[key] combination to switch it into a different mode. I definitely intend to put the APC40 through it' M4L paces. I have promised so many people that i will. Currently, I am putting all of my efforts into preparing for this weekends workshops in NY and NJ. I will most likely get to it next week sometime.

I'm just having trouble wrapping my head around how a shift{key} command can put you in another mode - I guess its because with the LP, you can see the different modes with M4L.api.SelectComponent.maxpat and I don't see anything similiar with with APC40. Looking forward to the tutorial, been wanting to make something useful with max, hoping I can when I understand this.

Hi Mike,

Count me in on the user mode switching help too. Thinking that setting this up will be more complicated than with the Launchpad? Possibly could be done using virtual midi as new midi cc's and notes would need to be sent from the APC in the "user mode"? Hopefully you know of a more elegant and efficient way of doing this strictly with M4L :)

Really looking forward to hearing how you'd tackle this problem

Hi Darren,

you're absolutely right mate - i downloaded this the other day. Just got my macbook back today, it's been in repairs - i can't wait to check this patch out... Only thing I'm not sure about is that it requires IAC bus routing... I was hoping IAC would no longer be required thanks to M4L, but I may be wrong? I saw Phatlines post trying to find out a more elegant way to implement his 72cc patch, but not seen anyone feedback yet unfortunately

I have been messing around with the CS Sequencer. It would be nice if by activating the Sequence mode, that it remapped the Button Matrix, AND allowed you to map the knobs separately when that mode was activated.

Not sure if that makes since. Basically I would like to learn how to Make the "Sequence Mode" access all knobs and faders on my APC40, not just the button Matrix. Or at least some knobs and buttons.

That way when in Sequence Mode you could use knobs and faders to adjust other parameters like the "bar forward/down" buttons, "page up/down" buttons, and whatever other parameters that could be mapped.

Either way, an APC40 Modes tutorial using M4L would be amazing and well appreciated.

Yes please! An APC40 Modes tutorial using M4L would be amazing and well appreciated. A nice tutorial would be how to change the assignments on the CS SEQ. I'd like to change the metronome button for turning on/off the cs seq to something else. I like to use the metronome and a shifted button would be better so you wouldn't lose any functionality. How about shift and the first track stop button, then the other track stop buttons could be for 7 other modes(like nativekontrol uses). Don't neglect the apc40, Thanks Mike!!

It's true that I have really not done much with the APC40. But, it's not because I don't have love for it... I Do... I was just writing only controller tutorials for a while that it seemed like that was all I was doing in M4L. I had to step back and create some tutorials that related to other aspects of Max and M4L. I will definitely get back to the controllers soon. Realize that a lot of the Launchpad tutorials can be used to learn about the APC40 too. They are very similar in terms of programming.
